ongoing research projects

Currently I’m working on a Situational Theory of Emotion developing a new approach to philosophy of emotions by taking them as dynamic and active situational occurrences.

The Situational Theory of Emotions will provide a novel hypothesis for the understanding of emotions while, simultaneously, construct a theoretical scheme to evaluate the various available theories of emotion. In addition, this research of Deweyan inspiration, aims at elaborating a critical interpretation of the philosophy of emotions clarifying: on the one hand, (1) the different methodological approaches to emotions; on the other hand, (2) the topics that surround reflection upon emotion. Among other things, the project aims to continue constructing the commented bibliography and a research database on philosophy of emotion (see personal webpage).

Under this research strategy I hope to show what is the most fruitful way to think about the nature of emotions, its puzzles and its connections to other major concepts of philosophy of mind.

recent publications:

Some activities:

  • Coordenation of the Webpage resource on Philosophy of Emotions from Philosophical Archipelago, which aims to provide a variety of information (see IFL site)
  • Maintaining the Reading Seminar on Theory of Emotions in order to promote the community of inquiry at Instituto de Filosofia da Linguagem. Sharing reading and discussion about the texts creates an ongoing dialogue among the various researchers of the Institute, for it creates a space where the different researchers share critical tools of thinking and their different philosophical interests.
