PhD Grant

The project "Context and Communication", PTDC/FIL/68643/2006(http://www.ifl.pt/main/DesktopModules/IFL_ProjectList/tabid/75/Default.aspx), evaluated and financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia - FCT) - the Portuguese Governmental Agency for evaluating and funding scientific research - is hereby offering a PhD Grant of 9 months (980€ per month, amounting to a total of 8,820€) or a Post PhD Grant of 6 month (1.495€ per month), for the development of research in the field of Argumentation Theory (Douglas Walton, Henry Prakken, H. Van Eemeren, Rob Grootendorst, and others). The candidates should send a short CV (no more than 2 pages long), as well as a sample of some of their work (no more than 10 pages), and should clearly state they availability to work, for the duration of the Grant, in Portugal, in the Philosophy of Language Institute (Instituto de Filosofia da Linguagem - IFL / FCSH / Universidade nova de Lisboa, Av. de Berna 26 C, Lisboa). The applications should be sent to jsaagua@fcsh.unl.pt, with the following stated in the subject box: "Context and Communication - Application for PhD Grants". Only the applications sent until May 20th 2009 will be taken under consideration. The reply will be given during the month of May. The winning candidate will have the opportunity to get an extention of the Grant for an added period of 39 months, through a subsequent application to be submitted to the FCT, with the IFL's support. The success rate of these candidacies is, as of this moment, of 100%.
