The library has been one of the great priorities of the I.F.L. since its beginnings. It's well known that the access to information, and by this we mean up-to-date information, hasn't been easy for the portuguese researchers and students in the great field of the social sciences, and particularly, in philosophy. We believe that our library, specialised in the areas of the philosophy of language, communication, mind and action and, more recently, in moral and political philosophy and aesthetics, will play, and is already playing, an important role in the promotion of these areas in our country, specially among the younger generations. In this sense and in order to keep on achieving this goal the I.F.L.'s library is open to the academic and scientific communities. In the last three years we have acquired more than 1500 new books and we have more than 4000 at the moment in the areas of philosophy of language, logic, philosophy of communication, philosophy of mind, history of philosophy, moral and political philosophy and aesthetics; we've also subscribed several philosophical journals: Analysis, Disputatio, Merkur, Mind, Mind & Language, Philosophy and Phenomenological Research, Proceedings and Adresses of the Aristotelian Society, The Journal of Philosophy e The Philosophical Review.

Recently researchers have access from our computers to the well known data base JSTOR – Arts & Sciences Collection (119 titles). IFL’s library is now on-line .
Our documentation centre enables our researchers and university students in general, to search for the most up-to-date articles and any other relevant information thanks to the acquisition of modern data base supports and all our computerised facilities.
Two video series “In conversation: W.V.Quine” and “In conversation: Donald Davidson”, both by London School of Economics are also available in our library. The same holds for several CD-Roms on Wittgenstein’s work and in Philosophy generally (e.g the Routledge Encyclopedia).
